Tripoli, 14 February 2023 - In celebration of the National Arts Month 2023, the Philippine Embassy in Tripoli, Libya, in collaboration with the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), organized π‘ƒπ‘Žπ‘ π‘–π‘›π‘Žπ‘¦π‘Ž π‘ π‘Ž πΏπ‘–π‘π‘¦π‘Ž last 10 February 2023. The event is part of π‘ƒπ‘Žπ‘ π‘–π‘›π‘Žπ‘¦π‘Ž 2023, the largest multi-arts festival in the Philippines organized by CCP since 2006.
Two (2) short films, “Kwits,” and “See You, George!” were simultaneously shown onsite at the Embassy’s Chancery building in Janzour, Tripoli, and via Zoom for online participants. A talkback was held with the film directors, Raz dela Torre and Mark Moneda, after the screening. The hybrid event gathered around 80 onsite and online participants.
“Kwits” follows the story of Tupé and his attempt to get his π‘Žπ‘¦π‘’π‘‘π‘Ž (aid) during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines. Meanwhile, “See You, George!” is about a group of hospital workers remembering the life of a “fallen” colleague, George, through a virtual necrological service. Both films were selected as finalists in last year’s edition of Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.
Through π‘ƒπ‘Žπ‘ π‘–π‘›π‘Žπ‘¦π‘Ž π‘ π‘Ž πΏπ‘–π‘π‘¦π‘Ž, the Embassy aims to reintroduce Philippine arts and culture to the Filipino Community as part of an intensive reintegration campaign, and with the use of films to provide a means of catharsis especially to those who have endured the pandemic.
