Filipino Muslims in Libya Celebrated Eid Al Fitr at Philippine Embassy

Filipino Muslims in Libya Celebrate Eid al-Fitr at Philippine Embassy

Tripoli, 13 May 2021 - Around 100 Muslim members of the Filipino Community in Libya gathered to perform the Eid al-Fitr prayer this morning at the Philippine Embassy grounds in Janzour City. The event, which was hosted by the Philippine Embassy, coincides with the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting during Ramadan.

After the Eid salah, Chargé d’Affaires Juan E. Dayang, Jr. delivered a message greeting the Filipino Muslims celebrating Eid al-Fitr and welcoming them to their second home, the Chancery. “I have witnessed how you observed Ramadan in prayer, fasting, and generosity for 30 days. You have given your time for God, and this has strengthened your spirit and disciplined your body. I felt your generosity during (the) month (of Ramadan),” he said.

He urged Filipino Muslims in Libya “to remain united and strive for unity as a Filipino community in Libya.” “In harmony, there is strength, and we can only achieve this by loving one another as brothers and sisters,” he added. CDA Dayang also read the Eid al-Fitr message of President Rodrigo R. Duterte.

The Embassy handed out gift bags to the children and prepared a simple Filipino breakfast for all the participants. Some of the guests brought special Mindanao cuisine in the spirit of sharing.
